Located at the southernmost tip of the Satsuma Peninsula, Kaimondake stands at an elevation of 924 meters and is an active volcano listed among the "One Hundred Famous Mountains of Japan." Its beautiful conical shape can be seen from most parts of the southern Satsuma region, earning it the nickname "Satsuma Fuji," and it is a beloved symbol of Ibusuki. There is a gentle spiral hiking trail that is about 5 kilometers long, taking approximately 3 hours to reach the summit, making it easy for people of all ages to enjoy the hiking experience. It is particularly popular among hikers. From the summit, one can enjoy panoramic views of famous Kagoshima attractions such as Lake Ikeda, Kirishima, Sakurajima, and Yakushima. At the foot of the mountain, the "Kaimon Sanroku Exchange Park" features camping sites, cabins, and other accommodations, as well as various recreational activities such as handmade soba noodle experiences, mini-golf, and a swimming pool open during the summer. Additionally, from late December to early February, beautiful rapeseed flowers bloom, and in the summer, sunflowers can be seen, creating a charming landscape where the vibrant flowers of Ibusuki's flower fields intertwine with the majestic Kaimondake.
