🗺️ Oyunuma (Niseko Yumoto Onsen)

📝 Introduction

"The source hot spring of Niseko Yumoto Onsen."

📖 Details

"Daiyūnuma" is located along the panoramic route from "Iwanai Town" to "Niseko Town." This hot spring pond is formed by rainwater and the flow of the Yukawa River, combined with high-temperature sulfur gases and steam emitted from the pond's bottom. The pond has a circumference of about 200 meters, and the sulfur gas (120°C) that erupts from the bottom heats the pond water to a high temperature of up to 60 degrees Celsius. There are sulfur springs at the bottom that gush out approximately 1,000 liters of water per minute. A strong sulfur smell permeates the area, and the gray-black surface of the pond, formed by sulfur compounds, continuously emits bursts of steam. Floating on the surface are yellow spherical sulfur formations, which are said to be quite valuable academic materials. Daiyūnuma not only possesses unique aesthetic beauty, but the surrounding scenery throughout the four seasons is also charming and picturesque. Behind the billowing steam, one can see the newly snow-covered mountains of the Shiribeshi region, creating a beautiful contrast of white steam, summer greenery, and autumn foliage that is worth seeing. In the past, it was a geyser that erupted hot springs up to several meters high, but the structure was altered when sulfur was extracted from the pond, causing it to no longer erupt. Today, Daiyūnuma serves as the source of the Yumoto Onsen, supplying nearby facilities.
