📖 Takao Mountain Cable Car

📝 Introduction

A 6-minute drive to climb Japan's steepest slope is the best mode of transportation for sightseeing at 高尾山 (Takao-san).

📖 Details

Takaosan, which allows you to easily enjoy the fun of hiking or climbing, is a popular tourist destination near Tokyo. The journey from the foot of the mountain to the halfway point takes about an hour on foot, but anyone can comfortably enjoy outdoor leisure time by taking the "Takaosan Cable Car," which takes only 6 minutes one way. The distance between Kiyotaki Station at the foot of the mountain and Takaosan Station at the top is approximately 1,000 meters, with an elevation difference of about 270 meters. The steepest section near Takaosan Station has an incline of 31 degrees, setting the record for the steepest cable car in Japan. The abundant natural scenery throughout the four seasons and the breathtaking views of Takaosan from the cable car are not to be missed. During Golden Week and the autumn foliage season, long lines of waiting passengers are common, highlighting its popularity. Near Takaosan Station, there are observation decks, food options, and souvenir shops, providing everything you need. You can bring pets such as dogs and cats on the cable car. They must be placed in a pet-specific basket or carrier (available for rent at the cable car station). Additionally, Kiyotaki Station features a two-person chairlift at the foot of the mountain. The chairlift arrives at a slightly lower elevation than the Takaosan Station of the cable car, with a ride duration of about 12 minutes.

⭐ Highlights

The cable car connects the foot of Takao Mountain with the mountainside. It can shorten a walking distance of about 1 hour to just 6 minutes. You can enjoy the seasonal scenery from inside the car. Pets are allowed on the cable car (they must be placed in a carrier or bag, and there is a rental service available at the station). There is also a two-person chairlift operating at Takao Mountain.
