📖 Miyajima Ropeway

📝 Introduction

Comfortably ascend the sacred site of "Misen" on the World Heritage island of Miyajima by cable car.

📖 Details

Mount Misen, at an elevation of 535 meters, is the highest mountain on Miyajima. Since ancient times, the entire island has been regarded as an object of worship, with Mount Misen revered as a sacred site. Taking the Miyajima Ropeway, it only takes 15 minutes to reach the Shishiiwa Station at an altitude of 433 meters. The ropeway operates between the "Momijidani Station" at the foot of the mountain, the intermediate "Kaya Valley Station," and the "Shishiiwa Station" near the summit, covering approximately 1.6 kilometers. The Momijidani Line features cabins that depart at fixed intervals in a circular format, while the Shishiiwa Line operates with two cabins moving back and forth in an alternating manner, which is quite rare for a combined operation. Along the route from Shishiiwa to the summit, there are several important attractions, including a viewpoint overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, ancient temples, and unique rock formations. The round trip takes about one hour, and those concerned about their stamina can first visit the Shishiiwa Viewpoint near Shishiiwa Station, where beautiful scenery can also be enjoyed. There is a free shuttle bus stop just a 6-minute walk from Itsukushima Shrine, making it convenient to reach Momijidani Station.

⭐ Highlights

The cable car connects the base of Mount Misen, the highest peak of Miyajima, with the area near the summit. The two routes operate alternately, taking about 15 minutes to reach the vicinity of the summit. From the Shishi-iwa Station and the observation deck at the top, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea and Hiroshima city. The sightseeing time on the cable car is approximately 1 hour, with an additional hour for walking to the summit. There is a free shuttle bus stop to the station at the entrance of Momijidani Park.
