📖 Details
Nashibukase, located in Nemuro City, Hokkaido, is the easternmost point of Japan's main islands and the place where the first sunrise in Japan can be seen. On New Year's Day, it attracts visitors from all over Japan to witness the first light of dawn.
In front of the cape stands the "Nashibukase Lighthouse," built in 1872, which is the oldest Western-style lighthouse in Hokkaido. From the cape, one can enjoy views of the "Shell Island Lighthouse" in the Northern Territories, "Crystal Island" in the Chikubu Islands, and the mountain scenery of "Kunashir Island."
The area around the cape has been developed into "Cape Nosappu Park," which features several attractions worth visiting. The park includes the "Northern Territories Museum," which provides information about the four islands and has display screens, as well as the "Four Islands Bridge," a memorial for the recovery of the Northern Territories and a prayer for peace.
