🗺️ Killing Stone

📝 Introduction

A powerful energy spot with the legend of the Nine-Tailed Fox.

📖 Details

Located at an altitude of 1,915 meters at the foot of Mount Chausu in the Nasu Mountain Range, the lava of the Nasu Plateau creates a desolate landscape filled with scattered rocks, exuding a unique atmosphere. According to ancient legends, the Sesshoseki (殺生石) is the embodiment of the "Nine-Tailed Fox" (九尾狐), known for its malevolence in China, making the area a powerful energy spot and a designated national scenic site. The surroundings are enveloped in the smell of sulfur and emit toxic volcanic gases, which have historically caused the deaths of animals such as raccoons and foxes. Today, there are walking trails for tourists, but caution is advised if accompanied by pets or young children. Every May, the "Oni Fire Festival" (御神火祭) is held. During the festival, participants dressed in white carry torches in a parade from the Nasu Onsen Shrine to the Sesshoseki, along with performances of the Nine-Tailed Drums (九尾太鼓).
