The old army red brick warehouse, a tangible cultural asset of the country, has been transformed into an art museum, located on the eastern side of the World Heritage Site, Himeji Castle. The museum houses approximately 5,000 pieces of art, including modern and contemporary works from both domestic and international artists, as well as local art collections. It also features works by surrealist master Paul Delvaux, as well as pieces by renowned artists like Picasso and Rodin. The exhibition rooms provide a broad introduction to masterpieces from both ancient and modern times, showcasing works from East and West, along with special projects for the Himeji City Art Exhibition. The collection gallery includes a free shop that introduces various themed collections from the museum, while the permanent exhibition in the Kunimitsu Keisuke Collection Room, titled "Modern French Painting: From Monet to Matisse," features a selection of 30 pieces from modern French art donated in commemoration of Himeji Castle's registration as a World Cultural Heritage site. The retro building made of red bricks is the best spot to enjoy views of Himeji Castle. At night, the building is illuminated, revealing a beauty that is strikingly different from its appearance during the day.
