🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
A famous shrine in Eastern Hokkaido where the snow fairy, the Long-tailed Tit, makes its appearance.
📖 Details
Built in 1910, it is one of the seven Betto Shrines in Hokkaido. The main deities enshrined are Ōkuninushi no Kami, Onamuchi no Kami, and Sukuna Hikona no Kami, three gods of agriculture and development. Among them, Onamuchi no Kami is an alternate name for the deity of Ōmoto Shrine in Izumo, who is believed to provide blessings for good relationships, agriculture, commerce, medicine, and martial arts.
The area is rich in natural beauty and was designated as a protected environmental area in Hokkaido in 1974. In addition to naturally growing large trees such as elm, walnut, and fragrant trees, it is also home to wildlife like the Long-tailed Tit, Ezo Squirrel, and Siberian Flying Squirrel.
The "Long-tailed Tit Omikuji," designed after Hokkaido's unique bird, the Long-tailed Tit, has gained popularity. The shrine also offers goshuin (temple seals) and ema (votive tablets) featuring the Long-tailed Tit, as well as a highly popular "Salmon Omikuji" that can be fished with a rod. The "Hanate Mizuhiki" event, held six times a year, has been rated as the sixth most beautiful flower water in Japan.
Tobetsu Shrine is also well-known as the prototype for the large Ezo Shrine in the manga "Silver Spoon."
