🗺️ Kanazawa Noh Museum
🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
You can learn while playing at the "Kaga Bōsei" and the Noh Theater Art Museum.
📖 Details
The Kaga Domain's Maeda family had a deep love for Noh theater and promoted its songs to the public, which led to Kanazawa being known as "the place where songs fall from the sky" in its early days. To pass on this traditional art form and its related artworks, the Kanazawa Noh Museum was built in Hirose, which has a rich connection to the Kanazawa Noh Theater.
The museum mainly showcases materials and artworks related to Noh theater, known as "Kaga Hosho," which were registered as intangible cultural assets of Kanazawa City in 1950 (Showa 25). The first floor features a model that recreates the Kanazawa Noh Theater and the process of making Noh masks, allowing visitors to engage with Noh in a relaxed manner. There are also interesting features indicating the positions of performers and musicians on stage. Additionally, augmented reality (AR) technology has been introduced to make the permanent exhibition more engaging.
On the second floor, there is a display of precious Noh costumes and a photo gallery introducing the history of Kaga Hosho. The third floor serves as a workshop space for activities like the "Kaga Hosho Children's School," where children can learn about Noh while having fun.
Moreover, the first-floor museum shop showcases and sells products themed around "Noh" as well as works by craft artists.
