Lake Tazawa reaches a depth of 423.4 meters, making it the deepest lake in Japan. It is renowned for its breathtaking cobalt blue surface and is listed as one of Japan's top 100 scenic spots, being a famous tourist destination in Akita Prefecture. In 2022, the moon hanging over Lake Tazawa was selected as one of Japan's "Top 100 Famous Moons," adding to the area's charm for visitors. The lake's surface changes with time, reflecting a crimson hue in the evening and turning purple at dusk, creating a stunning view that is definitely worth seeing. The lakeside, which is approximately 20 kilometers in circumference, is home to many historical sites and attractions. Among them, the "Tatsuko Legend," which has been passed down through generations, inspired the famous "Tatsuko Statue," which shines with a golden glow. The "Gozaisan Shrine," featuring a sacred tree that is about 450 years old and the "Kitaguchi Sacred Spring," where it is said Tatsuko transformed into a dragon after drinking, are also must-see attractions. The striking contrast between the red torii gate and the beautiful cobalt blue lake is particularly worth witnessing. It is recommended to take the Lake Tazawa Loop Bus, which stops at various tourist spots for a certain amount of time. Additionally, there is a sightseeing boat that takes about 40 minutes to circle the lake, offering different views from the water.
