🗺️ Arishima Memorial Museum

📝 Introduction

Introducing the memorial hall of the Taisho era writer Arishima Takeo, where the stunning views of Mount Yotei and the café are also not to be missed.

📖 Details

The writer Arishima Takeo, active during the Taisho era, is a core figure of the "Shirakaba-ha" (White Birch Society), known for works such as "Inherent Troubles" and "A Woman." The memorial hall is built on the former site of the Arishima Farm, developed by his father, Arishima Takeo, with the aim of introducing the life of Arishima Takeo. Inside the hall, designed with inspiration from the topography of Hokkaido, exhibits materials such as Arishima Takeo's works, letters, and photographs, showcasing his literary career and the groundbreaking "Land Liberation" process, where he generously released his farm to tenant farmers. The hall houses approximately 10,000 "貼畫" (stickers) works by illustrator Fujikura Hideyuki, depicting the different seasonal landscapes of Hokkaido, and is open for visitors year-round. This allows overseas tourists in Niseko to feel as if they have traveled across Hokkaido, making it quite popular. There is also a BOOK CAFE in collaboration with a popular café in Niseko. Here, visitors can enjoy a leisurely time while gazing at the magnificent mountain scenery of Mount Yotei, known as "Ezo Fuji," and the Shinyuku Valley, while savoring original specialty coffee or mocha soft serve inspired by Arishima's works. Additionally, taking a relaxing stroll in the beautiful garden established to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Arishima's birth is also a nice option (café purchases do not require an admission ticket).
