Miyama Town is located in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture, and still retains many precious thatched-roof houses. Among them, the northern village has 39 existing thatched houses, which blend seamlessly with the changing natural scenery of the four seasons, creating a nostalgic atmosphere of Japan's original landscape. It has been designated as a preservation area for important traditional buildings. Today, the entire village is known as "Miyama thatched-roof village," becoming a famous tourist attraction that draws numerous visitors. Tourists can visit shrines and temples, or explore the folklore museum to understand the lifestyle of farmers from 200 years ago through household items and agricultural tools. Additionally, the art museum located on the second floor of the indigo dyeing workshop showcases tie-dye works from Japan and around the world, allowing visitors to experience Japan's traditional culture that has been passed down through the ages up close. There are also private guided tours led by local guides that explore the village (reservation required), with groups starting from two people and English services available. Seasonal events such as the spring rice planting ceremony and the "Snow Lantern Festival," where the village covered in white snow is illuminated by dreamlike lantern lights, are also very popular.
