🎌 Matsubara Seika "SATA ANDAGI (Sata Andagi)"

📝 Introduction

Also known as "Okinawa doughnut," it is a traditional fried dessert from Okinawa.

📖 Details

Sugar is added to the flour and eggs to make the sweet doughnuts, which are then deep-fried to create "SATA ANDAGI (沙翁)." This is a traditional snack made by Okinawan families since ancient times. The outer layer is crispy while the inside is moist. The firm texture gives it a very elastic bite. Unlike doughnuts, it does not contain milk or water but instead uses a large amount of eggs. It is deep-fried at a low temperature, allowing the heat to penetrate the inside, which is one of its notable features, enabling it to be preserved for about a week. Near the Makishi Public Market, the Shintenchi Market Shopping Street has various shops. There is an archway located just a block away from Kokusai Street, making it a popular shopping destination for many tourists. "Matsubara-ya Seika" is a traditional Okinawan sweet shop that has been operating here for over 60 years, and its most popular product is "SATA ANDAGI (沙翁)." It comes in three flavors: brown sugar, purple sweet potato, and white sugar, and you can also buy them individually, making it perfect for eating on the go. In addition to the regular size, there is also a large version that is as big as a child's face.
