🗺️ Fish Viewing Mountain

📝 Introduction

From the peak that closely resembles Diamond Head in Hawaii, one can overlook the magnificent scenery surrounding it.

📖 Details

Standing along the coast facing Kinko Bay (Kagoshima Bay), Fish Viewing Mountain (魚見岳) is part of a volcano that formed over 100,000 years ago. The exposed volcanic breccia cliffs on the southern side have been compared to Diamond Head in Hawaii, which is one of the reasons why Ibusuki is dubbed "the Hawaii of the East." The observation deck and natural park near the summit, which is 215 meters above sea level, can be accessed by car. The view here is excellent; in the past, fishermen would look for the location of fish schools in Kinko Bay from the mountaintop, hence the name Fish Viewing Mountain. You can see Chirin Island and the city of Ibusuki connected by a sandbar during low tide, and on clear days, you can also catch a glimpse of major attractions in Kinko Bay such as Kaimondake and Sakurajima. At night, the city sparkles charmingly, accompanied by a romantic starry sky. The dense seasonal plants in the park are also a highlight; in spring, 600 cherry blossoms (染井吉野) and azaleas bloom, attracting a large number of visitors, making it the most recommended season to visit.
