🗺️ Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum
🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
A museum where both the architecture and the artworks are equally worth appreciating.
📖 Details
The museum is located just a 5-minute walk from Tokyo Station. The striking red brick building is a restored replica of the "Mitsubishi Ichigokan," designed by British architect Josiah Conder in 1894. Other notable works by him include the Ueno Museum and the Rokumeikan.
Inside, the museum primarily features Western art from the late 19th century, with collections including works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Odilon Redon, and Félix Vallotton. Each year, three modern art exhibitions are held, focusing on themes from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, along with various events such as symposiums.
In addition to the art pieces, the charming museum architecture is also a major highlight. The light-drenched grid staircase, the stone central staircase, the wooden decorations on the tops of the columns, and the newly added glass corridor are all intricately designed, making it hard to resist taking numerous photos.
The museum also features a café, "Café 1894," and a museum shop, "Store 1894," which are worth a visit as well.
