The "Amida Nyorai Statue" enshrined in Kōtoku-in, which houses the Great Buddha of Kamakura, is the most famous among the many scenic spots in Kamakura. This statue of Amida Nyorai serves as the principal object of worship of "Daibutsu-san Kōtoku-in Seijōsen-ji." The solemn and majestic figure leaves a deep impression on visitors, who affectionately refer to it as the "Kamakura Daibutsu."
Standing at a height of 11.312 meters and weighing approximately 121 tons, this truly magnificent Buddha attracts numerous visitors who stop to pay their respects. Additionally, the pair of imposing "Nio statues" guarding either side of the "Nio Mon" entrance is also a highlight not to be missed.
On the inner walls of the Kōtoku-in corridor, there hangs a pair of giant "waraji" (grass sandals), a must-see attraction. These sandals measure 1.8 meters in length, 0.9 meters in width, and weigh 45 kilograms, truly fitting for a statue of this size.
