📖 Details

Mount Miwa has been regarded as a dwelling place for deities since ancient times, earning deep faith from the people. The foothills of Mount Miwa are famous as the birthplace of Japanese somen noodles. At the local long-established noodle factory "Miwa Somen Honpo," there is a restaurant called "Miwa Somen Honpo Restaurant," where you can taste the authentic deliciousness of somen. "Miwa Somen Honpo" was founded in the mid-Edo period, specifically in the 2nd year of the Kyōhō era (1717), and has a long history of over 300 years, being a well-known brand of somen with high recognition nationwide. The characteristic of Miwa Somen is the lengthy process of slowly stretching the noodles repeatedly to mature them, allowing you to enjoy the unique ultra-thin texture and resilient bite of the handmade noodles. In the restaurant, you can enjoy various dishes made from the signature somen of the old shop. The classic cold somen uses ultra-thin noodles with a diameter of about 0.6mm called "Hakuryū." Compared to regular somen, it is even more delicate, yet you can still experience a bouncy texture and a smooth, refined mouthfeel. After savoring the authentic somen, it is recommended to visit the attached shop to purchase souvenirs. The spacious sales area offers a rich variety of items, from traditional products to new microwaveable items, making it a feast for the eyes.
