📝 Introduction
A shrine dedicated to Tōgō Heihachirō, located near Harajuku and Takeshita Street.
📖 Details
Tōgō Shrine is located near Harajuku Station and is dedicated to Admiral Tōgō Heihachirō, a commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy who made significant contributions. Although situated in the city, the shrine covers an area of approximately 8,600 tsubo, enveloped in natural tranquility. It was established in Showa 15 (1940) following requests and donations from people across the country after Tōgō Heihachirō's passing.
Due to Tōgō Heihachirō's leadership in Japan's victories, Tōgō Shrine is revered as a "Victory Shrine," attracting many visitors seeking the victory talismans "Katsu-fuda" and "Katsu-mamori." The characters on the "Katsu-fuda" are in Tōgō Heihachirō's actual handwriting. In addition to its association with victory, the Tōgō couple is known for their harmonious relationship, leading to the shrine also being regarded as a deity of marital harmony.
Furthermore, at Tōgō Shrine, visitors can obtain popular items such as Hello Kitty goshuin (temple seals) and amulets. The "Hello Kitty goshuin book" features a special stamp of Hello Kitty's bow, created to blend the "cute" culture of Harajuku with traditional Japanese culture.
