🗺️ Date Masamune Historical Museum

📝 Introduction

Experience the life of Date Masamune through wax figures.

📖 Details

The Date Masamune Historical Museum features around 200 life-sized wax figures that introduce the life of Date Masamune, the first lord of Sendai, through 25 scenes. The mausoleum where Masamune rests, "Zuihoden," was burned down during an air raid on Sendai in 1945 (Showa 20) during World War II, and excavations later uncovered remains. Inside the museum, visitors can see a reconstruction of Masamune's facial features based on these remains and hear sounds recreated by computer technology. A popular attraction is the "Armor Dressing Experience," where visitors can wear Masamune's armor, the "Black Lacquer Five-Plate Armor" (reservation required, additional fee applies). This armor is crafted by artisans who also make armor for television dramas and movies. The "Painting Experience" allows guests to design their own wooden "kuzumochi" (additional fee applies), serving as a memorable souvenir from their trip. The attached "Matsushima Oyster Hut MATSU" offers all-you-can-eat grilled oysters and thick-cut beef tongue, along with fresh oysters and scallops caught in Sanriku, allowing guests to taste the unique local cuisine of Miyagi. The café "Date Cafe," which serves edamame puree mochi and a variety of ice creams, is the perfect place to take a break while strolling around Matsushima.
