In the "Nyuto Onsen Village," which boasts 7 inns and 7 types of hot springs, "Kuroyu Onsen" is the most remote. It is said to have been discovered around 1674, making it a hot spring with a history of over 350 years, offering both accommodation and day-use bathing. Located upstream of the Sendakawa River, it is surrounded by beech forests, allowing guests to enjoy the tranquility of the hot spring and the mountains. The hot spring area has long been associated with the "Yudo" culture, which promotes healing of the body and mind through bathing. "Kuroyu Onsen" is also an ancient "Yudo" site. Several thatched-roof buildings stand in the area, preserving the traditions of hot spring therapy and the atmosphere of the bathing place. Kuroyu Onsen has two sources, with a rich water flow that is the highest among the Nyuto hot springs. It features both outdoor and indoor baths, with the most well-known being the historically rich "Spa Onsen." Due to its location in a snowy region, it closes for business in winter. During spring and summer, guests can soak in the hot springs surrounded by dazzling new greenery, which surely invigorates the spirit and promotes health. Take the bus towards Nyuto Onsen-kyo (Nyuto Line) from JR "Tazawako" Station for about 50 minutes. Get off at Kyukamura-mae and walk for about 25 minutes. (Guests with reservations can take a free shuttle bus at the final stop "Kani-ba Onsen" - reservation required.)
