🗺️ Inunaki Mountain Hot Springs

📝 Introduction

Although located in the suburbs of Osaka, it is a hot spring town filled with a secretive atmosphere.

📖 Details

Inugamiyama, developed 1,300 years ago, is the oldest Shugendo spiritual site in Japan. It is said that a dog barked to warn its owner of an approaching giant snake, thus saving the owner's life, which is how it got its name, Inugamiyama. In recent years, it has also become a well-known energy spot. The area retains the mysterious atmosphere of pristine nature, yet it is only about an hour's drive from downtown Osaka and approximately 30 minutes from Kansai International Airport, making its convenient transportation one of the reasons for its popularity. At the foot of the mountain, along the Inugami River, there is a hot spring town where visitors can enjoy a secret hot spring atmosphere amidst the changing natural scenery of fresh greenery or autumn leaves. The area is home to several unique hot spring accommodations, featuring large baths overlooking Japanese gardens and open-air baths with views of the national park forests. Guests can also enjoy local cuisine made with ingredients such as wild game hot pot and seafood from Sano Fishing Port. Each facility offers day-use options for those who wish to soak without staying overnight. Today, the Shingon sect's Inugami branch headquarters, "Inugamiyama Shippōdōji," still attracts practitioners from various regions and offers training experiences like waterfall meditation that the general public can participate in (reservation required). There are also easy walking trails, barbecue spots, and river play areas for recreational activities.
