📝 Introduction
One of the scenic spots for cherry blossom viewing listed in the "Eight Views of Lake Biwa."
📖 Details
Located on the northern side of Lake Biwa, in the rocky area of Makino Town, Takashima City. It is one of the scenic spots listed in the "Eight Views of Lake Biwa" and is also a famous cherry blossom viewing location.
Along the coast, where the waves have eroded the protruding rocky formations, there are up to 800 cherry trees (Somei Yoshino) stretching approximately 4 kilometers. Every spring, both newly planted saplings and venerable old trees over 80 years old bloom with splendid and magnificent flowers.
The mysterious and rugged rock formations, the emerald green surface of the lake, and the visible Chikubushima Island within the lake create a captivating landscape that contrasts beautifully with the vibrant colors of the fully bloomed cherry blossoms. It is said that this breathtaking scenery has caused renowned painters to pause in admiration while painting in the spring. No wonder it attracts large crowds of flower viewers every year.
Kaizu Osaki is also a cherry blossom viewing spot in the Kinki region that blooms later, about a week later than in Kyoto City. Even after the cherry blossom season in Kyoto ends, one can still enjoy the beautiful spring scenery here.
The self-driving routes and cycling paths in this area are quite popular, and there are also nature trails, allowing visitors to enjoy comfortable walks throughout the year.
