Hakone-en Aquarium is located within the Hakone-en complex by the shores of Lake Ashi. At an altitude of 723 meters, it is the highest aquarium in Japan with large seawater display tanks, also known as the "Aquarium in the Forest."
The aquarium is divided into areas such as the "Gabriel Seal Plaza" and the "Seawater Hall," where visitors can observe fish from around the world.
In the "Gabriel Seal Plaza," you can see the only freshwater Gabriel seals in the world up close. Daily performances showcase their charming appearances and graceful movements in the water, which are definitely worth watching.
One of the highlights of the "Seawater Hall" is a large outdoor display tank that is 7 meters high and holds 1,255 tons of water. The sight of sea turtles and tropical fish swimming gracefully is breathtaking. The ongoing "Seawater Show" features divers feeding the fish, providing an engaging spectacle.
Additionally, in the freshwater fish area, you can also see fish that inhabit Lake Ashi and giant fish from the Amazon River.

(1) Take the Izu Hakone Bus from "Hakone Yumoto" Station on the Hakone Tozan Railway towards Hakone-en for about 1 hour and 5 minutes, then get off at the final stop and walk for about 1 minute. (2) Drive from the Atsugi Interchange on the Tomei Expressway for about 1 hour. (3) Drive from the Gotemba Interchange on the Tomei Expressway for about 45 minutes.
