Opened in 1919, this long-established gallery has a history of over a hundred years. It is one of the oldest galleries in Japan still in existence today.
With the aesthetic philosophy of "discovering and creating new beauty," it has held more than 3,100 exhibitions to date. It plays an important role in promoting Japanese art and culture, featuring works by numerous Japanese artists, including Yokoyama Taikan and Fujita Tsuguharu, who later achieved great success in the Japanese art scene.
The founder was Nobumitsu Fukuhara, the first president of Shiseido, a representative Japanese cosmetics manufacturer. He was not only an entrepreneur but also an active photographer with a profound appreciation for art.
Since the 1990s, the focus has shifted to contemporary art, making the content easily understandable for beginners. In 2001, it reopened on the basement level of the "Shiseido Building" in Ginza, Tokyo. The gallery, with an open space of over 5 meters, is the largest in the Ginza area, capable of showcasing various effects and attracting the attention of many artists.
It holds 4 to 5 exhibitions each year, among which the "Shiseido Art Egg" series, featuring emerging artists, has received widespread acclaim.
