📝 Introduction

Admire the landscapes painted by renowned artists while exploring the shopping street for souvenirs.

📖 Details

Built in 1400, Kōjō-ji Temple is located on Chōon Mountain, northeast of Setoda Port. It is a temple that protects against disasters and prays for prosperity, and has been deeply revered by the public since ancient times. Near the summit, there is a vermilion three-story pagoda built in 1432. The view looking up from beneath this designated National Treasure is majestic, and as you continue up the mountain and look down from the top of the pagoda, the scenery of Setoda city and the sea is breathtaking. Kōjō-ji Temple is also depicted in the landscapes of the representative Japanese painter from Setoda, Ikuo Hirayama. The path leading to the main hall and the pagoda is well-maintained and easy to walk, so it’s recommended to visit with a relaxed hiking spirit. After your visit, it’s recommended to stop by the Shiomachi shop located at the southern foot of Chōon Mountain. This area was once a prosperous "Salt Town" during the salt production boom, and today you can still feel the bustling atmosphere of a transportation hub in the Seto Inland Sea, where people awaited the tides, known as "Shiomachi." Modern transportation has shifted from boats to cars, and amidst the tranquil atmosphere, you can enjoy pleasant conversations with the friendly island residents. In recent years, many trendy shops have opened, making strolls even more enjoyable. Besides the largest production of lemons in Japan, you can also find cakes and sake made from lemons, making it a great place to pick up souvenirs.
