📝 Introduction
The ancestral temple of Takeda Shingen, the strongest warrior of the Warring States period.
📖 Details
The ancient temple of the Rinzai sect, Myoshinji branch, is also known as the temple of enlightenment for Takeda Shingen, the strongest warlord of the Sengoku period.
Eirinji Temple was built in 1330 by the monk Muen, and in 1564, it was designated as the temple of enlightenment by Takeda Shingen. The Kai clan fell during the power struggles of the Sengoku period, and Eirinji Temple was burned down by Oda Nobunaga.
Later, the temple was rebuilt by Tokugawa Ieyasu and was able to preserve many cultural assets under the protection of the shogunate. The "Shikyakumon (Red Gate)" is designated as an Important Cultural Property, while the "Sanmon" leading to the garden through the Shikyakumon is designated as a Prefectural Important Cultural Property. Other significant sites include the "Eirinji Garden," recognized as a national scenic spot, and the "Hōjō Garden," a dry landscape garden.
Inside the main hall, the "Uguisu no Hashi" (Nightingale Corridor) has a unique structure; when walking on the wooden boards, even the lightest footsteps produce sounds reminiscent of nightingale calls, which children find amusing.
