📝 Introduction

A Japanese tea house transformed from an old traditional house along the historic Tōkaidō, filled with the elegant ambiance of the Edo period.

📖 Details

Minami-Shinagawa Chabako is a tea house specializing in Japanese tea, located in the Minami-Shinagawa area, which thrived during the Edo period as a post town along the old Tōkaidō road. In December 2018, Minami-Shinagawa Chabako opened with the concept of creating a "contemporary old Tōkaidō tea house" in this neighborhood that still retains its historical charm. The shop is converted from traditional row houses along the old Tōkaidō road. It offers carefully selected sencha and matcha, primarily sourced from Shizuoka and Kyoto, served with exquisite teapots and teacups. The most popular item is the "deep-steamed sencha" produced in Kakegawa, Shizuoka. The "gyokuro" from Uji, Kyoto, is also quite popular. Additionally, the shop sells original Japanese sweets handmade by wagashi artisans. Among the classic menu items is the "lemon daifuku," which incorporates grated lemon peel into white bean paste and adds cream cheese, giving it a flavor reminiscent of Western confections. Seasonal limited menu items are also offered, such as "strawberry daifuku" in spring and "shaved ice" in summer.
