The Shibuya Ward Matsuo Art Museum was designed by the architect Seiichi Shirai, known as the "philosophical architect," during his later years in the Showa era. The building's facade features a slightly curved exterior made of a light pink granite that Shirai referred to as "Red Cloud Stone," adorned with a golden entrance that creates a romantic artistic atmosphere. Inside the museum, visitors can see designs that showcase Shirai's talent, and it is said that many tourists visit specifically to admire the beauty of the architecture. From the bridge that spans the four-story high space, one can enjoy views of the oval sky above and the fountain below, exuding an ambiance reminiscent of two different worlds. The elegantly curved spiral staircase and the entrance skylight made of natural stone agate are also must-see highlights. It is worth mentioning that the museum regularly holds architectural tours led by curators. The exhibition content mainly consists of four planned exhibitions each year, featuring public exhibitions and painting exhibitions related to Shibuya Ward. Additionally, concerts and art classes are held periodically. The museum also actively organizes lectures and various activities in conjunction with the planned exhibitions.
