📖 Details
The "Karinto Manju" from Kashi-dokoro Omiya, established in Showa 25 (1950), is the signature product of this long-established confectionery shop "Omiya," located in the residential area of Shimomusuta-cho in Takasaki City, formerly known as Haruna-cho. The signature product, "Karinto Manju," is said to be the hardest manju in Japan, loved by local residents and tourists alike, making it one of the representative souvenirs of Gunma Prefecture.
The outer skin made with brown sugar encases a red bean filling, and after being deep-fried, the manju has a crispy texture filled with the flavor of karinto, exuding a rich aroma. The crispy outer skin pairs perfectly with the gently sweet high-quality red bean filling, creating a delightful combination. The sweet and crispy outer layer combined with the moist and smooth filling allows you to enjoy two different textures in one bite.
In addition to the classic red bean filling, there is also a version that incorporates white sesame into the brown sugar dough, filled with black sesame paste, known as "Karinto Manju (Sesame Flavor)" (120 yen each). Regardless of the flavor, the daily sales quantity is limited, so it is recommended to visit in the morning. Besides the main store, it is also available at Takashimaya Kyoto Store and online shops.
