🗺️ Hirosaki Brick Warehouse Museum

📝 Introduction

Transforming the century-old brick factory into an art museum.

📖 Details

The Hirosaki Brick Warehouse Art Museum, which opened in 2020, is housed in a brick warehouse that is over a hundred years old. It was once a sake brewery active during the Meiji and Taisho eras and is one of Hirosaki's representative landscapes, known as the "Yoshino-cho Brick Warehouse." This precious building has been renovated and transformed. The museum introduces advanced art from both domestic and international artists, hosting two alternating exhibitions each year in spring/summer and autumn/winter. It also collects and displays contemporary works that explore the history and culture of Hirosaki and the Tohoku region. Before the museum opened, world-renowned artist Yoshitomo Nara, who hails from Hirosaki, held exhibitions here in 2002, 2005, and 2006. A highlight of the museum is the "A to Z Memorial Dog" displayed at the entrance, a special piece created by Nara to express gratitude to the local area and its people related to the exhibitions. Additionally, the attached café offers dishes made with Aomori ingredients, including apple pie and CIDRE made from Aomori's famous apples. After visiting the museum and relaxing in the café, guests can also stop by the museum shop, which is filled with original merchandise and Hirosaki specialties to choose from as souvenirs.
