Shinkamon Street is the main approach to Izumo Taisha in Shimane Prefecture. Stretching approximately 700 meters from the Uka Bridge Torii Gate to the Nezumida Torii Gate, this approach is registered as a national tangible cultural property. The street is always bustling with travelers visiting Izumo Taisha, creating a lively atmosphere. From the main gate of Izumo Taisha, you can enjoy beautiful views that can only be seen here, which is one of its highlights. On Shinkamon Street, where the old and new coexist, there are as many as 60 shops lined up, making a leisurely stroll here a delightful experience. A must-try when you visit is the most famous dish in Izumo: "Izumo Soba." There are several renowned shops in the area, and it's nice to compare and taste from multiple places. Additionally, there are specialty shops for "Red Bean Soup," which is said to originate from the area, as well as souvenir shops displaying a variety of Izumo local products. Not only are there famous snacks and sweets, but also items related to matchmaking, making it a place worth exploring. There is a tourist information center (Shinkamon Street Omotenashi Station) that provides brochures about Izumo Taisha and tourism in Shimane Prefecture, so it’s a good idea to stop by before your sightseeing. Moreover, in front of the main gate of Izumo Taisha, there is a shopping street called "Goyen Yokocho." This area also gathers many local eateries offering mountain delicacies, seafood, and desserts, as well as souvenirs related to matchmaking and mythology, making it a great place to visit while strolling around.
