🍜 Asahikawa Hanachan

📝 Introduction

Developed for making snacks for the husband, Asahikawa's soul food "Fried Squid Leg Rice Bowl."

📖 Details

In Asahikawa City, besides ramen and other delicacies, there exists a hidden soul food. This delicious dish originates from "Hanachan." The slightly vintage appearance of the restaurant reflects the locals' long-standing affection for it. The soul food you can taste here is "fried squid legs rice bowl" (炸烏賊腳丼飯). At first glance, it appears to be a signature dish with fried squid legs served over white rice. Originally created as a side dish for the owner's husband, the fried squid legs evolved into a rice bowl dish after numerous trials and errors. The improvement at that time involved cooking without deep-frying. The squid legs are coated with potato starch and pan-fried, and it is said that this unique cooking method allows the sauce to easily adhere to the batter while maintaining the squid legs' tender texture. The rice bowl topped with squid legs coated in a sweet and spicy sauce is truly exceptional, and its price is very reasonable, making it a favorite among the local residents.
