📖 Details

The "Asakusa Shin-Nakamise Shopping Street," which was born in the early Showa period, has a history of 90 years. Compared to the "Nakamise Shopping Street" that stretches from Kaminarimon to Sensoji Temple, this east-west shopping street in Asakusa is 380 meters long and consists of five areas, making it the largest shopping street in Asakusa. Along this shopping street, which crosses Nakamise Street, Chuo Street, and Oren Street, there are various shops including restaurants, clothing stores, and local specialties and souvenirs, which are popular among both locals and tourists. What makes this shopping street unique is the coexistence of long-established shops that opened during the Showa era alongside trendy new stores that have become popular among young people, creating a harmonious atmosphere. The entire shopping street forms an arcade, allowing visitors to enjoy shopping without worrying about rain or sun. Every Friday at 3 PM, a cat with a head shaped like a bath towel, the shopping street's mascot "Asakusa Shin-Nyaka," makes an appearance, and visitors can see the cat interacting with shoppers. There are also unique events held on the shopping street. In February, the "Gratitude Lottery" allows participants to win shopping vouchers or original products, while in July, the "Hōzuki Street" features activities such as the "Tezuma" clapping ritual performed by "Kite heads" in traditional half-coats and shop owners, praying for prosperous business.
