Benten Rock, located in Niigata Prefecture's Naoetsu City on the Sea of Japan, is a massive reef formed by underwater volcanic eruptions. After crossing the Akebono Bridge, which has red railings, you can see this volcanic ejecta made up of lava fragments and volcanic ash.
At the center of the island stands the famous Itsukushima Shrine, known as the guardian deity of the sea. Behind it, a white lighthouse rises prominently. From the base of the lighthouse, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Sea of Japan, making it a popular spot for capturing beautiful photos of the seasonal scenery.
Naoetsu City has been designated as the "City of Love Lighthouses" in the "Ocean and Japan Project" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and other organizations. The majestic Benten Rock reef, the red Akebono Bridge, the white lighthouse, and the lush pine trees create a beautiful landscape that has earned it the reputation of a romantic sanctuary, attracting many couples.
Surrounding Benten Rock are breakwaters that attract many families and group tourists to play in the water during the summer. An annual fireworks festival is also held in early August.
