🗺️ Changmen Gorge

The Nagato Gorge, stretching from Hagi City to Yamaguchi City, is a beautiful valley approximately 12 kilometers long. Initially referred to as "Nagato Yabakei" due to its resemblance to the Yabakei in Oita Prefecture, it was later praised by the Japanese painter and geologist Takashima Hokkai as "the most beautiful gorge scenery in Japan," and renamed "Nagato Gorge." It was designated as a national scenic spot in 1923. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom; in summer, the greenery flourishes; in autumn, the leaves turn red; and in winter, the snow creates a picturesque scene. The changing scenery throughout the seasons is worth seeing, especially the fiery red autumn leaves reflecting in the river, which is not to be missed. The Nagato Gorge Maple Leaf Festival is held every November. A walking path of about 5.1 kilometers has been developed along the Abukawa River, making it a great place to enjoy a leisurely stroll in nature. Various fish swim in the river, and many birds and butterflies inhabit the area. It is recommended to immerse yourself in the bountiful nature and relax completely. Listen to the gentle sound of the flowing river while gazing at the diverse landscapes of strange rocks, rapids, waterfalls, and deep pools.

Yamaguchi Prefecture is a famous scenic spot designated as a national scenic area. It is also a well-known destination for viewing autumn leaves. It is recommended to take a leisurely stroll along the riverside path, where you can see various creatures and plants. In autumn, a maple leaf festival is also held.
