🗺️ Choshi Great Waterfall

📝 Introduction

One of the most famous waterfalls in the 奥入瀬溪流 (Oirase Stream), it boasts charming scenery throughout the four seasons.

📖 Details

Choshi Falls is located at the confluence of the water flowing out of Lake Towada and the Oirase Stream. It is approximately 7 meters high and 20 meters wide, making it the largest waterfall on the Oirase Stream and the only waterfall located on the stream itself. The name "Choshi Falls" comes from the shape of Lake Towada, which resembles a sake bottle, and the falls themselves, which look like the spout of the bottle. Due to the powerful water flow, fish are unable to swim into Lake Towada, earning it the nickname "Fish Stopping Waterfall." In the early days, Lake Towada had no fish habitats, but now you can see released species like the Yamame trout. Each season offers captivating scenery. In June, the melting snow feeds the stream, greatly increasing the waterfall's water volume and creating a breathtaking dynamic landscape. The vibrant autumn foliage surrounding the falls is truly awe-inspiring. Additionally, in winter, one can see sunlight shining on the frozen waterfall, reflecting a brilliant blue light known as "Ice Fall Blue."
