⛩️ Enoshima Shrine Nakatsumiya

Nakatsu Shrine is located at the center of Enoshima Shrine. It was built in 853 by the priest Jikaku and is dedicated to the deity Ichinomiya Himemiko. The shrine's architecture, consisting of the main hall, offering hall, and worship hall, is a faithful reproduction of the original design constructed in 1689 by the fifth shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. The ceiling of the worship hall is adorned with 154 paintings and carvings of flowers and birds representing the four seasons, which is truly stunning. The enshrined deity is a legendary beauty, attracting many women who wish to enhance their beauty, as well as bringing various blessings. The water deity fortune slips are also popular among visitors; by placing the slip in the water basin on the left side of the shrine and wetting it, text will appear. The stone lanterns and weeping cherry trees within the shrine grounds are said to have been donated by the Kabuki theaters Ichimura-za and Nakamura-za, making a leisurely stroll through the area a delightful experience.

The Kongen-zukuri shrine hall, rebuilt based on the main hall, offering hall, and worship hall from 1689, is not to be missed. The lattice ceiling of the worship hall is adorned with 154 paintings and carvings of flowers and birds representing the four seasons, which are also worth seeing. It is said to bring various blessings such as prosperous business, safe travels, and many children and grandchildren. The water deity fortune slips, which reveal text when wet in the water basin located at the back left of the shrine hall, are also very popular. The stone lanterns and weeping cherry trees in the precinct are said to have been donated by the Kabuki theaters Ichimura-za and Nakamura-za.
