⛩️ Nezu Shrine (根津神社)

📝 Introduction

A famous spot for viewing azaleas, the shrine's buildings and its thousand torii gates are an important cultural property of Japan.

📖 Details

The main shrine, 唐門 (Tōmon), and the entire building of 根津神社 (Nezu Shrine) were constructed in 1706 and have been well-preserved to this day, designated as an important cultural property of Japan. The bright red "千本鳥居" (Senbon Torii) within the shrine grounds and the "許願榧樹" (Yasuragi Keyaki tree), which is said to be particularly effective for making wishes, are also popular attractions of the shrine. Every year, about 100 types, totaling 3,000 azaleas bloom in the shrine's "杜鵑花苑" (Tsutsuji-en) from mid-April. During the azalea season, the "文京杜鵑花祭" (Bunkyo Azalea Festival) is held at the shrine, and the azalea garden is open to the public during this time, attracting large crowds of visitors. Additionally, the "根津神社例大祭" (Nezu Shrine Grand Festival) is held around mid-September, during which the shrine is filled with worshippers, creating a lively atmosphere.
