🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
A magnificent castle ruin famous for its cherry blossom viewing.
📖 Details
The Warring States daimyō Tsutsui Junkei began constructing the castle in the 8th year of Tenshō (1580), making it the largest castle in the Yamato region of Nara Prefecture at that time. In the 13th year of Tenshō (1585), Toyotomi Hideyoshi's brother, Hidenaga, took over with a stipend of one million koku and carried out extensive renovations. In modern times, the castle prospered as it became the residence of the Toyotomi family, the Mizuno family, the Matsudaira family, the Honda family, and the Yanagisawa family.
Over 400 years have passed since the castle's construction. Although only the tenshu (main keep) remains today, important parts of the castle such as the tenshu enclosure and Bishamonten enclosure have been designated as national historic sites, and the inner moat and stone walls have been well preserved. In recent years, the Otemon gate and Higashisumi turret have been reconstructed, allowing visitors to reminisce about its former glory. The surrounding area has been developed with walking paths and has gradually transformed into a park, becoming a place for public recreation.
This location has long been known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. Every spring, the delicate cherry blossoms adorn the majestic castle, creating a uniquely picturesque landscape. During the cherry blossom season, the "Castle Festival" is held, featuring a parade of people in traditional costumes and nighttime cherry blossom viewing, among various other activities.
