The road rest area "Michi no Eki Ukihata" is located on National Route 201 at the border of Fukuoka Prefecture and Oita Prefecture. Situated on a high point that overlooks the Chikugo Plain, it is a popular tourist destination in the area. The eye-catching wooden building is modeled after the nationally designated important cultural property "Kudo-style folk house." The "Kudo-style" is an ancient traditional architectural style from the Saga and Fukuoka regions, characterized by a roof shape resembling a "Kudo (stove)." Within the premises, the "Products Hall Nishimidai" offers fresh vegetables and fruits picked in the morning, as well as a variety of local specialties, handmade delicacies, and bento boxes. Among these, the jam made from persimmons grown in Ukihata, known as the "kingdom of fruits," is particularly popular. The fast-food restaurant "Pochi (ぽち)" serves soft-serve ice cream, takoyaki made from Ukihata's green onions and flour, and Japanese black tea made from Ukihata tea leaves, allowing visitors to enjoy the delicious local ingredients. Next door, the tourist exchange facility "Ukihaco (ウキハコ)" has tourism information staff on-site to provide recommendations for sightseeing spots. There is also a bicycle rental service, making it easy to explore nearby attractions by bike.
