🗺️ Manzamo

📝 Introduction

The grassy plateau and the sheer cliffs overlook a vast cobalt blue sea, making it one of the top scenic spots in Okinawa.

📖 Details

Manzamo is located on the eastern coast of Onna Village in the central part of Okinawa Island and is a representative scenic spot of Okinawa. The term "mo" comes from the Ryukyuan language, meaning "field." It is said that King Shō Kei of the Ryukyu Kingdom visited Onna in 1726 and marveled at the site, stating it was "large enough to accommodate ten thousand people sitting on the ground," hence the name. This cape, formed by uplifted coral and composed of Ryukyu limestone, has been eroded by the sea over the years, creating cliffs approximately 20 meters high, famous for their unique shape resembling an elephant's trunk. The scenery, where the blue sky, cobalt blue sea, and white waves crashing against the cliffs intertwine, is truly spectacular. The views of the East China Sea change in hue with the seasons, weather, and time of day, making it well worth a visit. On the grassy plateau atop the cliffs, there are precious plants designated as natural monuments of the prefecture, making it a well-known natural treasure. Nearby, there is the "Manzamo Surrounding Activation Facility," which opened in 2020, a convenient complex that includes shops and dining options, as well as restrooms and makeup rooms. There is also an observation deck that offers views of Manzamo and Mount Onna. The exhibition room within the Manzamo facility requires an additional fee.
