📝 Introduction
From the park on the small hill, you can overlook 3,000 cherry blossom trees and the popular cherry blossom viewing spots in the city.
📖 Details
Kikuchi City is praised as the "hidden retreat" of Kumamoto, with about 10 hot spring inns located within the city. Kikuchi Park, developed from the ruins of the Kikuchi clan's castle, which ruled the area for 24 generations over 450 years, is situated on a small hill that overlooks the city and serves as a place for citizens to relax and unwind. Nearby is the Kikuchi Shrine, built on the orders of Emperor Meiji.
The park is home to around 3,000 cherry blossom trees, including about 20 varieties such as Somei Yoshino and Yamazakura, making it a representative cherry blossom viewing spot in the prefecture. The sight of the blossoms intermingling on the hillside is worth seeing, especially from the observation deck called "Kanzukirō." During the blooming period, nighttime illuminations using lanterns are held, allowing visitors to enjoy a dreamlike atmosphere different from that of the daytime. After the cherry blossoms, the blooming season of azaleas follows, which should not be missed.
The expansive park features various facilities, including a grassy plaza, playground equipment, and tennis courts, attracting many families on weekends, creating a lively atmosphere.
