⛩️ Niikura Fuji Asama Shrine

📝 Introduction

You can enjoy a distant view of the magnificent Mount Fuji and visit ancient shrines with a rich history.

📖 Details

Located on the middle slope of Mt. Shinokura, it was built in 705 AD and is revered as the guardian deity of the Arakura village in Yatsushiro District, Kai Province (now the area around Arakura). In 807 AD, after the great eruption of Mt. Fuji, a fire suppression festival was held by an imperial envoy to pray for the safety of the land. At that time, Emperor Heizei bestowed the title "The First Mountain of the Three Kingdoms" (meaning the greatest mountain in the world), and a plaque personally inscribed by the emperor was enshrined on the red torii gate of the shrine. This shrine has a long history, and it is said that Takeda Shingen's father, Nobutora, camped on Mt. Shinokura while fighting against the Hojo clan and prayed at the shrine, after which he achieved victory. Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine is also a famous viewpoint for Mt. Fuji. Especially from the highest observation deck reached by climbing from the large torii gate, one can overlook the Chureito Pagoda (five-story pagoda), the scenery of Fujiyoshida City, and Mt. Fuji, making it the best spot for photography. The spring scenery, with cherry blossoms blooming everywhere, is particularly enchanting. Other attractions worth seeing include the beautiful stone steps of the Omotesando, the large torii gate, and the towering tree known as the "Child-Rearing Sacred Tree." Many visitors come specifically to pray for disaster relief, family harmony, safe childbirth, and child-rearing.
