Located in Ome City, Tokyo, this long-established sake brewery was founded in the 15th year of the Genroku era (1702). It is widely known for its famous sake "Sawanoi," and the brewery is situated in the Mitake Valley, a deep mountain gorge along the upper reaches of the Tama River, rich in natural resources. The Sawai area, where Sawanoi is brewed, is also renowned for its cool and abundant water sources, which inspired the brand's name. The brewery offers free tours every day. Visitors can listen to explanations about the production process of "Sawanoi" and tour the brewery.
Tours are held daily (closed on Mondays) at 1 PM and 2 PM, arranged by phone reservation. Led by a staff member from Ozawa Shuzo, the tour lasts about 30 minutes. Visitors can explore the storage warehouse known as "Genroku Warehouse," which has been in use since the brewery's founding, as well as the "Kuramoto Cellar" where aged sake is stored, and the "Kurazai Well," which is used for brewing water.
After the tour, it is recommended to visit the "Sawanoi Sake Shop," which offers more than 10 types of sake, and the "Seiryu Garden Sawanoi-en," which sells Sawanoi sake and sake buns among other products. Here, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Mitake Valley while savoring fine sake and light snacks.
