📝 Introduction
A traditional public bathhouse located in the charming Taisho romantic atmosphere of Ginzan Onsen.
📖 Details
Ginsan Onsen prospered in the 16th century due to silver mining and became famous as a hot spring area during the Edo period, particularly in the early years of the Kan'ei era (1741). It has been a well-known hot spring destination since ancient times, even mentioned in the Edo period's "Shokoku Onsen Kōgai Ken" (A Guide to Hot Springs in Various Regions).
Today, the area is lined with retro-modern buildings constructed during the late Meiji to Taisho periods, creating a charming and popular hot spring street. The "Public Bath Shirogane-yu" is a day-use hot spring facility located on this street, designed by the architectural master Kengo Kuma, seamlessly blending into the Ginsan Onsen streetscape.
The hot springs feature sodium chloride and sulfate springs, with delicate "yukigumi" (bathing flowers) floating in the water, providing a relaxing soak that warms the body from the inside out. Visitors can experience the historical ambiance of Ginsan Onsen, which was once renowned as a healing hot spring resort where guests would stay for 1 to 4 weeks to treat ailments or improve their health through bathing.
