Located in the center of Miyazaki Prefecture, on hills with an elevation of 50 to 80 meters in Nishiusuki City, lies Japan's largest ancient burial mound group. Within a range of 4.2 kilometers north-south and 2.6 kilometers east-west, there are over 300 burial mounds scattered throughout. It is now designated as a national special historic site, undergoing renovations to preserve and utilize the burial mounds, making it a recreational area where one can feel the ancient atmosphere. The burial mounds have been restored to their original appearance, featuring Japan's largest scallop-shaped burial mound, the "Onasahozuka Kofun," and Kyushu's largest keyhole-shaped mound, the "Nonasahozuka Kofun," both exuding a sense of history. The area also includes the "Nishiusuki Archaeological Museum" and the "Ancient Life Experience Hall," where visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the history and changes of the Nishiusuki burial mounds. The local area is also a famous flower viewing spot, with springtime rapeseed flowers and cherry blossoms competing for beauty, summer bringing an abundance of sunflowers, and autumn showcasing blooming cosmos, welcoming visitors with its charming seasonal scenery.

Take the Miyazaki Kotsu bus from JR "Miyazaki" Station towards the Miyakō City Bus Center for about 3 minutes. At the "Miyazaki Kotsu Tachibana-dori Branch" bus stop, transfer to the bus heading towards Nishitō for about 50 minutes, and get off at the "Nishitohara" bus stop, which is within walking distance.
