📖 Details
SAPHIR Odoriko is a sightseeing limited express train running between "Tokyo" and "Izukyu-Shimoda." SAPHIR means sapphire, inspired by the coastline and sky of Izu. The train's exterior is painted blue, aiming to provide passengers with an elegant and high-quality travel experience akin to that of a gemstone.
The entire train consists of green cars (first-class cars), with seats in cars 5 to 8 being comfortable and equipped with power outlets. There are eight family-friendly compartments available for 1 to 4 people and 1 to 6 people. With prior reservation, passengers can enjoy exclusive meals and drinks at the "Scenic Restaurant."
On trains heading towards Izukyu-Shimoda, passengers can see Mount Fuji through the windows on clear days, particularly before and after Odawara Station, where Sagami Bay can also be viewed. Between Izu-Hokkawa and Izu-Inatori, the train runs closely along the coast, allowing passengers to see waves crashing against the rocks, and in the distance, the large island set against the Pacific Ocean. The SAPHIR Odoriko travels along the eastern side of the Izu Peninsula, with its final destination being "Izukyu-Shimoda" Station. In 1859, U.S. Navy Commodore Matthew Perry visited this historic port town with his black ships, making it a place rich in history that invites visitors to stroll along the stone paths once walked by Perry in Shimoda.
After departing from Tokyo Station, it takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to reach this historical port town from the late Edo period, making the journey itself a luxurious experience.
