📝 Introduction

Experience the mystery of the majestic nature and the romantic charm of the abandoned SL steam train in the divine settlement.

📖 Details

Kamuikotan means "the settlement of the gods" in the Ainu language. This sacred land is traversed by the Ishikari River gorge, filled with the harshness and mystery of nature. The unique rock formations and pot caves, shaped over long years by the moon, have also appeared in Ainu legends, exuding both solemnity and mystique. Each season in the gorge has its own charm: cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, autumn leaves, and winter snow. The magnificent beauty of the changing seasons captivates everyone. The gorge features the "Kamuikotan Bridge," which spans across it, allowing visitors to look down at the rushing waters and enjoy the thrill and breathtaking scenery. In the past, a railway operated here; although it has since been abandoned, there is a restored station called "Kamuikotan Station." It showcases three SL steam locomotives, attracting many railway enthusiasts and fans of abandoned lines. While the SL steam trains are not open for entry, they can be photographed from a very close distance, providing a romantic experience that feels like traveling through time.
