🎌 Sugar Shop "Tawara Confections" "Ame Confections"

📝 Introduction

The signature product "JIROAME" has been made into easy-to-eat granulated candies "俵果子" (Tawara Gashi) and "飴果子" (Ame Gashi), representing Kanazawa's local souvenirs.

📖 Details

Founded in the first year of the Tenpo era (1830), this candy shop has a history of over 190 years. It uses only domestically produced rice and barley, along with water, to create candies with high nutritional value, known since ancient times as natural foods suitable for helping patients regain strength and promote health. The product line most suitable as a souvenir includes the signature item "JIROAME," which is cooked down to become "OKOSHIAME," then made into small, bite-sized pieces called "TAWARA GASHI," as well as "AME GASHI," which is transformed into granulated form through a special process. The refreshing and sweet "TAWARA GASHI" has two flavors: the simple "TSUBUAME" and the ginger-infused "SHOGA." Both have a delicate taste, making them perfect for direct consumption or as a flavor enhancer in cooking. "AME GASHI" comes in two classic flavors: the traditional "SHIRO" and the "KINAKO," which has the aroma of roasted soybean flour. It features a melt-in-your-mouth texture reminiscent of Japanese soft candies, allowing you to savor its flavor slowly without the need to chew. You can purchase these products at the Tawaraya main store and Kanazawa Hyakubangai (inside Kanazawa Station).
