Located in the northern part of Tochigi Prefecture, Shiobara Onsen is a hot spring area with a history of over 1200 years. Along the banks of the Hōki River, there are 11 hot springs, which is why it is also known as "Shiobara Eleven Springs." There are as many as 150 hot spring sources, making it a unique place where you can enjoy various types of hot springs within a single area. The hot spring town has about 50 accommodations where you can relax slowly in the flowing hot spring waters. Each accommodation has its own unique features such as bath facilities, cuisine, and location, so you can choose according to your preferences. There are facilities available for day-use bathing, including public baths, restaurants, and lounges, allowing you to spend the whole day here. There are also several easy-access hot spring spots, such as foot baths. Some hot spring inns also offer day-use bathing plans, so it's a good idea to check in advance. In the valley, there are seven suspension bridges, including the famous Kōyō Valley Big Suspension Bridge, known as a lovers' sanctuary. Additionally, there are ten well-known waterfalls, such as the Raijin Falls, which are perfect for leisurely walks nearby. You can enjoy the autumn foliage and the beautiful scenery of different seasons here. This area is also famous as a hot spring destination loved by many literary figures, and monuments dedicated to writers like Ozaki Kōyō and Natsume Sōseki are worth a visit.
